Save A Tree Corporation formed after a simple event. Robert Harper and Harry Hart went fishing. Visiting Costa Rica's Northern Zone in 2001, two realities struck both men: the beauty and serenity of the area abounded; serious environmental problems threatened its survival. They also realized, that with the help of others, they could make a difference. So, a first small step in meeting that challenge began with the purchase of two properties totaling 37 hectares or 91 acres.
Save A Tree Corporation's stated purpose is to protect the low land rainforest of Costa Rica. To that end, its immediate goal is to procure neighboring properties. Such properties will include both virgin rainforest and deforested lands for reclamation. Donations made to Save A Tree will help make this goal possible.
Equally important to achieving our goal is the education of the local people. The locals use the rainforest as cattle land and indiscriminately harvest forest trees. At the same time, endangered species like the Green Macaws are taken and the skins of other animals taken for profit. Obviously, the people are dependent upon this income. Thus, educating the people about conservation and ecology is only a half measure unless accompanied by meaningful partnership with the Corporation. So, Save A Tree will employ the local people of the area to reforest, to protect bird species that are nesting, and to work cooperatively with the Corporation to protect the properties in Costa Rica.
